Who Are You?
A simple question, that if you’re honest with yourself, could be very hard to answer.
It’s somewhat easy to list off some titles that come to mind:
- Mom,
- Wife,
- Daughter,
- Employee,
- Friend…
…But is that truly who you are?
Is your identity defined by what somewhat else calls you? Or by the tasks, you perform? Or even by the value that someone you love places on you?
How do you discover who you are, who God designed you to be?
According to Ephesians 1, we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing. We have been chosen, adopted, redeemed, forgiven, and unconditionally loved and accepted. We are pure, blameless, and forgiven.
God’s word tells us we are those things but do you truly believe that?
Finding your identity is one of the hardest things anyone can do. When I was stuck in bed after my accident, these same questions plagued me constantly.
The #1 thing I realized was that I had no identity other than that which other people gave me.
This was a BIG problem because after my accident I wasn’t able to be the person people needed me to be. So then what did that mean for my identity?
It meant I had none.
That was probably my scariest moment.
That’s when God began to show me that I needed my own identity. I didn’t need the validation of ANYONE. I just needed to realize that God had given me all the validation I needed simply because I’m me.
When we are in Christ, our identity can never be altered by what we do!
Your validation is simply that you are you. All you need to be is you. The YOU that God made you to be.
But who are you exactly?
I’m guessing many of you can relate and have even asked yourself this question in the last day or so. Maybe you’re in here today and you find yourself really discouraged or you feel like you’re spiraling out of control.
Possibly you’ve labeled it lack of confidence and insecurity. Maybe you call it feeling worthless, unloved, alone, and hopeless. Let me assure you, you’re not the only one here who feels like that.
[I live in that dark space for almost 2 years]
What it really comes down to though is an identity crisis.
And if you have your identity wrapped up in everyone else, then it’s time for you to find you again. You have to begin to remember what your hopes, dreams, and aspirations were. In those memories, you’ll begin to find yourself again because God put those dreams in you.
But don’t stop there.
I have something for you.
A way to help you create real change.
