What does it actually look like to be “in Christ”?
In the book of Ephesians Paul writes “in Christ” 12 times just in chapter 1 alone. He writes in ALL of his letters the phrase “in Christ” almost 200 times.
That is hugely significant to any believer, let alone if we struggle with our identity and who we are in Christ!
Let’s take a look at Ephesians 3:14-21, which is the heart behind The Study Nook.
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.“
Now ask yourself, do you FEEL like this is true?
Do you BELIEVE this is true and see the blessings that come from living in Christ … but you don’t actually see how it can be for yourself?
Maybe you hear, read, and see these truths, but it never really takes effect so you’re left wondering if they even apply to you as a believer.
We can be left questioning ourselves, filled with doubt.
- Am I the ONLY ONE who feels that way?
- What is wrong with ME?
- Am I not good ENOUGH?
- How could God LOVE ME?
- Maybe I’m not really a Christian or certainly not a “good” Christian like all those other people.
I’ve shared this before but I want you to let this sink in.
BEHAVIOR follows BELIEF
A lot of times we need to believe it’s true first, and keep telling ourselves the truth BEFORE we actually see our behaviors change and see the evidence of truth in our lives.
As a believer in Christ, YOU are blessed and given every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places – Ephesians 3:1
I want you to believe and live this, and I am here to help you.
I CAN NOT WAIT to dive into the book of Ephesians with you over the next few weeks and unpack what this means for you and your identity in Christ. Make sure you are attending the LIVES inside The Study Nook group on Tuesday’s to get the most out of this walk through Ephesians.
We’ll talk about the “outer” and how we can do this within the culture that we live in. Also taking into account our circumstances, we’ll have our inner selves “strengthened and rooted” to help us step into the identity that God has already planned for and offered to us.
Talk soon,

“How very desirable is it to have a settled fixed sense of the love of God and Christ to our souls, so as to be able to say with the apostle at all times, He has loved me!” – Matthew Henry Commentary
