The Perfect Judge – Psalm 58

psalm 58

Psalm 58 is a complaint to God about the evils of man, but also a recognition of God’s sovereignty and justice.

“Mankind will say, ‘Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.’”

Psalm 58:11

When we are being persecuted or see injustice, it is easy for us to want to play judge. Especially when we feel like no justice is being served. However, this Psalm serves as a reminder to take our complaints to God and he will hear us. Then, as the one and only righteous and perfect judge, God will convict and judge those doling out evil. It may not be in our timing or look the way we want it to, but I promise you, it will be done in God’s perfect timing and way.

God sees all things, hears all things, and knows all things. Therefore, what better judge is there than him? None.

Let it all out.

Don’t be afraid to express yourself as you cry out to God. You are allowed to have feelings. If you have been persecuted or witnessed great evil, it is natural to be fired up, and that’s okay. Take those feelings to God, and he will hear you. He will also act as judge on your behalf.

If you are afraid of speaking frankly with God just listen to David’s words:

“O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord! Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted. Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun” (Psalm 58:6-8).

Turn to God, our perfect judge, and he will redeem and protect you.
