Talking with so many women over in The Study Nook Facebook™ Group I know it’s quite possible you’ve completely lost yourself in all of the shame and guilt over the years.
And you’re out of time and energy to do anything about it.
Perhaps you feel like you’ve tried it ALL when it comes to studying the Word, understanding it and trying to find out what your God - Given purpose is in life.
…and nothing seems to stick.
And you may still not feel loved, valued, or full of purpose.
All I can say is that this is totally normal. You’re NOT alone.
I have been exactly where you are friend
I’ve laid my head on my pillow at the end of the day… not able to recall where all my time went…
I’ve felt like whatever I did spend my time on was the wrong thing [enter shame] …
I’ve been desperate to have a handle on my time, and the energy to change the state I’m in.
After my accident (see yesterday’s post for that story), I was on and off bed rest and spent many many hours on our couch. With not much else that I could do… my kiddos and I often watched TV.
I can remember one afternoon I laid there with tears streaming down my face wondering if this was going to be it…
“Is this how the rest of my life is going to look?”
“Will I ever be able to actually play with my children again?”
“Will I ever be able to just hold them without pain all over my body?”
I didn’t want that to be it… but it sure felt like this was my permanent new reality.
For several months I wallowed in my misery and often thought “why me?”. I CHOSE to let my current state dictate how I felt about myself, my family, and my future.
Thankfully the Lord began to speak straight to my heart, reminding me that this is only a SEASON in my life AND I got to CHOOSE how I viewed my current season.
I had the option to CHOOSE to continue to wallow OR I had the opportunity to take a step back and learn from my current season. Did my awful circumstances change immediately… NO, they changed CRAZY slow… BUT, my perspective (mindset) about my circumstances did change QUICKLY.
Changing circumstances is a hard and often long process… But you CHOOSE to change your view of your circumstances now.
Don’t get me wrong, you may need to make that CHOICE over and over again each time you’re faced with your current reality. But each and every time you CHOOSE to align your thoughts with God’s Word, you get stronger and stronger. Those constant CHOICES to think “God’s thoughts”, about you and your life, turn into actions that then often propel you into different circumstances.
Friend, you can invite God in or try to block Him from working - all with the CHOICES you make.
The CHOICE you need to make today is to CHOOSE to step aside so that Jesus can have room to work in you.
Remember… Jesus is our heart’s mechanic. Any repair we try to do on our own is like trying to fix a broken heart with duct tape. If you allow Jesus to diagnose and repair your heart - He will take what is broken… mend it… prepare it… and equip it.
So what things in your life do you need to lay aside today that are distractions? How can you refocus your time and energy today so Jesus can have access to YOU?
For today… go read Ephesians 4:15&16
