“O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.”
I hear my alarm go off, hit the snooze button (maybe more than once 😉), finally open my eyes, and let’s be real here – check my phone, then finally get out of bed. My morning continues with bathroom time and getting dressed. Then a glass of water and making sure coffee is brewing comes next, followed by helping the kiddos wake up and start their day. Breakfast, coffee (super important!!!!) and clean up all must be done before school begins at 8:30.
Whew…I’m ready for a nap, are you?
How I really need to start my day is with you. I need to open my eyes and think of you. I should wake up, praise you for another day and then ask you to impress on me your plan for the day. I want to reach for my Bible instead of my phone. I want to start my day quiet, reflective, waiting and expecting to hear from you, giving myself as a sacrifice to you and your will.
I love this quote, from a sermon given in 1850.
“It is not a thing which a man can decide, whether he will be a worshipper or not; a worshipper he must be: the only question is what will he worship? Every man worships – is a born worshipper.”
I am trying to change my habits and be intentional with my mornings. When my alarm goes off I wake up, say a prayer to you, open my Bible and draw some wisdom from your sweet Word. Then I get out of bed, get prepped for the day, help the kids with their morning, have some coffee (can’t forget the coffee), and then have the right spirit within me to approach the day.
