In Psalm 41 David holds fast to God’s promises even as he lays on his sick-bed. Then, although his enemies continue to be spiteful, David chooses to trust in God and leave his troubles in God’s hands.
What I love about this Psalm is David’s unwavering faith in who God is and his goodness. In Psalm 41:1-3 he says, “Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him; the Lord protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies. The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.”
These verses remind us that the Lord is our deliverer, protector, sustainer, and healer.
Do you need God in any of these capacities right now? Are you in trouble? Are you experiencing something that has you scared? Are you tired? Are you sick? If so, remember to run to God and trust in his power and goodness. Let God help lift some of the weight off your shoulders. Remember, nothing is too heavy for him.
I know that handing God our baggage and fully trusting him can be hard because we have all experienced disappointment and heartbreak at the hands of others, and the fear of reliving those experiences scares us into never wanting to fully let go and trust God.
But I promise it will be okay. He is trustworthy, and he is good. He will deliver you in your times of trouble. He will protect you when you face danger. He will give you the strength to keep going, and he will make you whole.
