“Do you feel lost, stuck, alone, confused, and directionless in your Spiritual life?”
If you’ve been a believer for any length of time, you’ve likely heard that your relationship with God MUST come 1st in your life.
As true as this is, it is also often hard to grasp.
What does that really mean? What does that actually look like? Where and how do I begin?
Maybe, for you, what comes to mind is a list of “replacements” disguised as relationship. They are “good things”, but ultimately just replacements if we are not focused on growing in our PERSONAL relationship with Christ. As a believer, you can not use “Spiritual replacements” for your relationship and 1-on-1 time with Jesus. - Group Bible Studies
- Conversations with family or friends about Jesus
… or even helping your kids with their spiritual lives as a replacement for YOUR time with Him.
The two most common places we tend to get stuck are in the “replacements” or in the list of to do’s.
Like when we feel that our relationship with Him MUST look a certain way .. or maybe it feels even a bit cliché.
We can spend our days feeling like we need to check off boxes to be a “good Christian”.
- Reading scripture for a certain amount of time each day
- Having quiet time only in the morning
- Praying a specific way or length of time
- Going to Bible study
You see, replacements and to-dos are NOT relationship. You must put time and effort into your PERSONAL relationship with Jesus.
So yes, it is true that it is okay to put YOUR spiritual life above any & all other relationships. In fact, God calls us to do this!
It’s not just a cliche` saying.
But believe me, I understand it is a battle.
It took me years of mentorship and re-training my thoughts. Time and money spent changing my habits and re-redirecting my life…and it took time to lean into my newfound identity in Christ. It is a battle, but one absolutely worth fighting for! Why?
Because the result was both life-changing for me and legacy changing for my family.
